MACK, a significant influence I didn't know about!

Good morning, good afternoon or good evening, wherever you are reading this text in the world. How are you all doing? 😊

Today, I've come to share something with users who frequently use the graphic materials of the artist MACK or his personal website LooseLeaf, and also for those who have used materials from the REFMAP group on the FSM (First Seed Material) website, where MACK is involved, to be used from RPG Maker 2000 to RPG Maker VX/Ace.

At the beginning of the year 2023, I discovered that MACK had a significant role in creating graphics for many products in the "ツクール" (Maker) series, free lessons made available on The Digifami Web page by ASCII itself and in another content creator's group. 😮

I've always liked the artistic style of RTP XP and RTP VX/Ace, especially the detailed Characters and Tilesets of XP in pixel art. The inspiration for creating "RTP VXP" itself was because of the materials from FSM and RTP XP. To find out who is behind the RTP, I sought information about MACK and with the help of the Web Archive, I found enough sources to get in contact with him. Since his art and techniques in the lessons made me what I am today as a pixel artist, and I've seen many people praise the graphics that I also like without knowing who the artist behind it is, I asked if we could conduct a text interview.

He agreed if all the questions were sent at once, rather than having a conversation exchanging information. Due to the difficulty of asking more technical questions about Pixel Art in the Japanese language, I formulated questions relevant to MACK's stories during his journey with digital art up to the present day.

The interview was written in three languages: Brazilian Portuguese, English, Japanese and they are saved on Google Drive.

Para Português Brasileiro, a entrevista está ou estará na revista "Make The Game Edição 31": Make The Game
日本人の場合: MACKにインタビュー.pdf
For English: Interviewing MACK.pdf

"I'm back!"

I came back in style and "updated"! 😎

Hey everyone, how's it going? Long time no see, how have you all been? If you're still around, that is. 😂

I'm doing well, thank God... shall we get down to business? This blog post has been drafted numerous times in 2023, it was just gathering dust here in the drafts category, yes, I'm typing slowly and you'll understand as the post goes on.

Some visitors might have noticed the blog being gradually updated, adding tabs for "free material", "paid material" (Please Future Me, release something paid, I need some change), works, about me, contacts, and links... And some changes too, like the logo, the favicon, the name... "Wait, the name Vash?" Yes, the name, by the way, I haven't gone by Vash for many years, since 2017, I think. 🤔

Regarding the name change, it's pretty obvious but let me explain, although I like the main character from TRIGUN (NOTE: the 2023 anime is absolutely AMAZING 🤩, kudos to Studio Orange), Vash the Stampede, I needed to dissociate that name so that people who use or buy my material would remember me by my real name, my brand, my "face". In my view, having a real name would give more credibility than being remembered by an anime character or other media. Imagine, if you release something using "others'" name and those "others" are more remembered than you? Also, I'm not sure what kind of problems that would cause for me regarding publishing products under my old nickname.

Now, the question some might be asking, "Why keep the blogger? Why still use this system?". Answering that, I know using Blogspot may seem outdated, but it was in this format that I started and spread my work around the world, so the link vashmaker.blogspot.com was spread, deleting it and starting from scratch with new posts or another blogging system seemed demotivating. If I already have years of history here, many visits from outside - even if they don't comment on posts or follow the blog - then why not improve it?

That's what I thought and intend to do, I organized the pages gathering my obscure artwork from 2010 to the present day, the artwork that wasn't posted here but on forums (yes, I kept frequenting forums after the name change until May 18, 2019). I brought everything onto one page instead of leaving it scattered throughout the blog, navigating through the posts is really annoying. Although I have few posts (actually had more, but I deleted them because they infringed on some rights 🙄) if you analyze it coldly. 🧐

I also updated the posts where the links and images were broken, it was interesting to see my written texts and how the sites I partnered with looked like during these years. Oh yes, you must be wondering "Where are the links of the partners in the blog's column?" I organized all of them on a single page called "LINKS 🔗", it will facilitate access for those interested in other materials/subjects recommended by me and related to RPG Maker in general, from graphics, music, scripts, systems, character design, and maybe in the future classes and games. During this recovery process, many of the partners no longer exist and even using the WebArchive feature, it's not possible to access their content, so if you're one of them, I'm sorry, but you have nothing to show anymore, unfortunately. If you're reading this and want to contribute to a blog or site related to RPG Maker and similar engines, send your recommendations in the comments on the page.

As I mentioned the pages, let me give you a "brief" summary of the others:
"PAID MATERIAL 💲", I pray that Future Me releases at least "1" product and I hope it sells, 🙌 amen 🙏! Over the years, I've noticed that producing more original graphics brings a difference to the project or game, as I myself got tired of seeing projects or games using the RTP graphic style, even with alterations and additions, perhaps my view is wrong for having followed this "maker world" for many years instead of having a view just as a player. So I'm trying to find a way to detach myself from the RTP style and create my own art unrelated to RPG Maker, but as it's still a niche that recycles itself, maybe I'll sell products with RTP themes, like reimagined characters from versions that are less used today.
Unfortunately, this hasn't been fulfilled yet and with the arrival of the new year, it was more than time to update the blogger with a better and more positive post than the previous one, the production of paid materials is no longer in the background. 🏭

"FREE MATERIAL 📦", all the material I've produced and consider usable in games, I've separated them by category and tried to put a date for each of when I produced them, in the old ones that are at the bottom of the page, you'll notice that I produced a lot of material to meet the demand of users in Brazilian forums for their projects under development... sad that I don't remember any now going from demo status to complete. 😕
While organizing the dates and searching for information via WebArchive, an idea started popping up (I love popcorn 🍿, I think I'm Crow in Woody Woodpecker's) "What if I start updating all this material for today with what I've been learning?", because if I want to sell products, it wouldn't be nice to present a portfolio mixing old material with new. By the way, if you notice, there are some improved materials that are mixed with the old ones, because I had already made this proposal to myself, will it work now? I don't know, what do you think? Comment down below!
I considered the idea of posting periodic updates showing my evolution comparatively, but I quickly changed my mind and decided to make these changes quietly and Future Me should release this demonstration here or on this topic page with a .zip file including my updated material, I hope! 😅

I changed my mind again! Before the end of 2023, I decided to add all this material in 1 single package to avoid pollution, slow loading, and not give that headache of downloading one by one, not to mention that since I've had problems with Photobucket in the past and Imageshack, why not avoid it in case Imgur goes down or decides to block hosted images?

"ABOUT 👤", I don't have much to describe, if you're interested in how I ended up here and how I'm still active. Read it and also tell me how your story was to get where you are today involved in this game development scene.

"CONTACT 📭", pretty self-explanatory, due to spam problems, I should put my contact by email changing the @ for another symbol, since for commissioned work, it's essential to contact privately and using the blog comments wouldn't be private, but if you want to give praise or suggestion, I'll be all ears, or reading all comments? 😅

"TERMS OF USE 📜", it's not a page, I know, it's a gadget that will haunt you (👻) throughout the blog wherever you go, to remind you of the basics, there is a human being and they worked hard to provide these materials whether for free or paid, so don't forget to read the terms of use!!! 👍

If you noticed, I added the "Donate" button with that beautiful spinning coin art, as I provided my free material for everyone to download, use, modify as they wish, why not give me some support? Donate the amount you think is fair, it will make me happy and motivate me to bring more free material.

NOTE: I made it a long time ago for a project to create games with ads for mobile phones with a friend of mine (The Panda, Pandinha for close friends 🐼) or at least try, unfortunately it didn't go forward, because I'm used to the artistic side and he wanted me to program with him, having to learn from scratch something I've never touched while I was busy with work, doing the arts 😕 and it was considered to do it as "non-pixel art", 3D! O.o. All this demotivated me to continue and we both gave up, I hope he's not upset about it to this day... 😅

SO OFFICIALLY "VASH MAKER" ACTIVITIES ARE CLOSED!

RESTARTING NOW AS VICTOR SENART!

From now on, "spread the word", please share to help this old pixel artist.

Finally, really? Yeees, I hope you had a profitable reading, I don't know if those who are followers are still active in the blogging scene or if they will read this one day, the world changes very quickly, new tools emerge, I myself get lost with many profiles created for digital art sites and game development forums, be they Brazilian, English, European, Italian, Japanese and so on, I end up not updating, leaving them inactive...
Even "talking to the wind" from now on, in any case, I intend to use this blog as a repository, if you read the "ABOUT 👤", you'll understand how things "come and go", nothing lasts forever, they get lost over time and I lose with that. Hopefully Future Me will use the blog to showcase the processes of new works and future products that may be for sale, maybe updates on graphic projects (yes, I'm talking about the RTP VXP) and games.

Since I mentioned RTP VXP, "oh Victor, I thought the post was over!" my dear, I'm still editing since the beginning of 2023, maybe the post won't even come out or I'll write even more 🤡. I decided to pick it up again, though, I'll try to complete only the representations of the characters from RPG Maker XP and RPG Maker VX/Ace.
Reason: the project started by another artist in 2010, Galter and I joined later doing the characters for VX, many years passed without updates from Galter and me, the characters were available for users to use, so it's not fair to you and the participants of this project for me to remove the materials already published and start charging for the new characters. Another detail is that this art style of VXP is very similar to FSM (First Seed Material, idea initiated by MACK) for VX, with the difference that FSM is more "chunky"... just look here at the comparison:

Producing a "new" or "updated" RTP for free demands a lot of effort without return, especially considering we're focusing only on young adult human characters. Now, imagine also creating the animals and monsters for each battler that haven't been represented by pixel art sprites. Yes, that was the initial idea. There was also consideration given to creating or remaking XP/VX tilesets based on the style of the artist MACK's materials, sourced from their blog or website, LOOSELEAF. This artist deserves a post of their own. In summary, they were the artist who managed and worked on the art, primarily in pixel art, for various versions of RPG Maker and its auxiliary or derivative programs from the "ツクール" (Tkool/Maker) series, providing support on their personal website with tutorials and materials that could be used in the respective engines.

It Was a Long Journey

"It Was a Long Journey"... the availability of the blog has always had its ups and downs due to the low number of accesses and even it becoming outdated in terms of design and the materials for the version of RPG Maker that I used.

Since I started it in 2010, I even deleted some posts that I felt didn't reflect my maturity both in writing style and the work itself that I share here. I participated in large communities, witnessed them fall and rise again, fall again even after re-emerging with different names, and even the friends and companions I acquired over time have gone with the passing of these 6 years of... career? Or would it be a hobby? I believe a hobby, because looking at everything I've done, from projects that didn't go forward, that big one I lost from the hard drive, the ones from various teams I participated in that also didn't go forward, to series or project packages that didn't quite work out, I always did all this for fun without intending to profit or pursue a career in game development.

But even without all that intention, I managed to learn and improve my skills more and more in the communities I frequented, almost all of them, from Sanctuary (the first), Mundo, Condado (Vila Makers), Grandes Makers (missing Ureca), Dungeons, and Centro RPG Maker, the last one being the one I felt more attached to the people because of the time I spent there. However, as the days, months, years passed, I grew older and consequently acquired other responsibilities in my life that sometimes took all my time, enthusiasm, and energy to deal with pixel art and even to comment and post new content in CRM.

With this journey coming to an end and a new one beginning for me in my current field, I conclude my activities here without knowing if I will ever return. So, I will leave... not everything, but part of what I did and ideas that may be used by you from this dusty blog, with the possibility that no one will read and see this pitiful farewell text from a world full of things to explore, learn, and create other worlds.

I wish good luck to everyone and a big hug to those I met on this journey through this immense world.

Dramatic illustration for this post, no!? ;}
\õ, Goodbye.

Last Works #4 - Pixel Art

New and edited sprites included in the Art Material [2010 ~ 2023] package

Now to wrap up this 'series,' I'll leave small and distinct things regarding pixels, some of which may not have been completed, perhaps they'll be repeated here ^.^'.
